introduction part for this essay just begin at the body part because I’m going to put it on the body of the previous essay. Superficially, your first assignment is a
definition/response essay, wherein you will answer a basic question: “The Lie” is a story about _________. But as with any intellectually founded discussion (like the
ones we’ve conducted in class), this “blank” is not filled in quickly, or simply, and your address of “The Lie” must go beyond the demonstrated narrative so as to
reveal a deeper, more valuable meaning for the text, investigating examples from the story that support a central, illuminating thesis.
Ideally, you have already constructed a “living” draft (a draft in-progress) of this work by addressing the three questions we’ve discussed in class, which are, again:

2) Why does Lonnie take these days off?
3) Why does Lonnie choose this particular lie?
These and other ideas, fostered in class discussion, may act as your individual entryways into a larger, more holistic interpretation of the narrative as a whole.
Note, this is not a summary; use examples from the text, but do not spend more than a phrase or two recounting a particular scene, or quoting from the text.
Additionally, this essay should employ multiple examples, offering multiple insights while focused on a coherent, overarching thesis (Lonnie is depressed, Lonnie is a
good person, et cetera); do not enumerate (1, 2, 3) your paragraphs, and do not make the paragraphs theoretically distinct or independent from one another. Finally,
please do not begin your essay with the sentence, “’The Lie’ is a story
